Ivy League or Boston:
A diploma from an Ivy League School hangs on his office wall. As we got acquainted, he said, I completed my training in Boston. I wondered why he chose to say ‘Boston’ instead of naming the school.
I notice you said ‘Boston’ when you could have said ‘Harvard’. Was that intentional? I wondered out loud if it was an expression of humility.
He said that he hadn’t given it much thought. I didn’t press it. We moved on.
Set a tone of candor by expressing sincere curiosity. Don’t be pushy.
